Story building process

From concept to interactive story in guided steps.

The flow below mirrors the ARC creation screens: choose your genre, define the world, shape the narrative, and lock in your cast.

1. Pick a Genre

You start by selecting the primary genre of your story.

  • Options include Thriller, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, Mystery, Romance, Adventure, and more.
  • Each genre includes a short description to guide tone and expectations.
  • You can browse Popular ARCs for prebuilt story frameworks.

πŸ‘‰ This step defines the core storytelling lens.

2. (Optional) Choose a Popular ARC

If you tap into Popular ARCs, you can begin from a starter template instead of a blank slate.

  • Worldbuilding foundation
  • Character dynamics
  • Tone and themes
  • Example starter: underground civilization, magical creature bonding, political factions, slow-burn romance

πŸ‘‰ This acts like a starter template instead of building from scratch.

3. Write the Premise

Next, you define the core idea of your story.

  • Who is the story about?
  • What goes wrong?
  • Why does it matter?
  • What makes it unique?

πŸ‘‰ This is your elevator pitch (3–10 sentences).

4. Define the Setting

You choose when (and implicitly where) the story takes place.

  • Era options include Ancient, Medieval, 1800s, Early 1900s, 1950s, 1980s, Present Day, Near Future, Far Future, Timeless, or Custom.

πŸ‘‰ This anchors your story in a time period and context.

5. Create Characters

You build your main cast.

  • Name
  • Role (Protagonist, Antagonist, Love Interest, Mentor, and more)
  • Traits (pick up to 3, such as Brave, Strategic, Guarded, Ruthless)
  • Optional character arc (growth, fall, redemption)

πŸ‘‰ This shapes the people driving the story.

6. Choose Narrative Details

You define how the story is told.

  • POV: Third Person Omniscient, Dual POV, Multiple POV, Epistolary, Unreliable Narrator
  • Tense: Past or Present
  • Writing style: Cinematic, Minimalist, Lyrical

πŸ‘‰ This controls the voice and reading experience.

7. Generate / Continue

Once everything is filled out, tap Next and the app uses your inputs to generate or guide the story.

  • Use Surprise Me earlier in the flow to auto-fill ideas when you want a jumpstart.

πŸ‘‰ You move from setup into live story generation.

Big picture

The ARC app walks you through storytelling in this order:

Genre β†’ Concept β†’ Premise β†’ Setting β†’ Characters β†’ Narrative Style

It's essentially turning storytelling into a structured system: creative freedom, guided constraints, and fast ideation.
